Creasing Tools

At Sauer System, we do not sell creasing tools. We sell creasing solutions. From start to finish, we consider paper quality, product mix, manufactured gap variation tolerances, and work together with our customers to determine the best creasing tool combinations.

The Evolution of Creasing Profile Design

As the quality and weight of the paper in our industry continues to decline, and the configuration and construction of board continues to change, the importance of properly designed creaser, featuring the latest creasing profile technology, is more important than ever. Sauer System stays at the forefront of industry trends by constantly evaluating board styles, coming up with solutions.

The Three-Piece Design Advantage

The hallmark design advantage of Sauer scorers is the three-piece design, featuring a scorer body, scoring insert, and clamp ring. The three-piece design allows for a multitude of advantages including:

  • Lower cost of ownership, as only the insert ring needs to be replaced over time.
  • The ability to quickly and easily tweak profiles on the fly by just changing the height, width, or shape of the scoring insert.
  • Some profile designs are not possible to manufacture without a replaceable insert design due to the complexity of the geometry of the profile.

Female Creasers & Creaser Anvils

Female creaser heads, creasing rings, and “scoring covers” (creaser anvils) are available from Sauer in durometers ranging from 60A to 90A. Today’s paper typically calls for either 70A or 80A.

Male Creasing Heads & Rings

Sauer System creasing heads and rings are available for ALL machines and all machine models.

CREASER RINGS & RING ASSEMBLIES

A majority of the creaser ring Sauer provides fit onto OEM heads. The creaser rings incorporate required features of the OEM rings but come when possible as three piece scorer ring assemblies with a hardened replaceable scoring insert and clamp ring. Scoring rings are made from the finest quality steel.

MANUALLY SET CREASER HEAD ASSEMBLIES

Manually set creaser head assemblies feature a scorer body with an insert and clamp ring (for the traditional style) or a scorer body that accepts a fully demountable three-piece scoring ring (for G3 style scorers). The scorer base heads are manufactured from Dura-Bar Continuously Cast Iron and feature single-screw-release for quick setups.

YOKED CREASER HEADS & HEAD ASSEMBLIES

Yoked creaser head assemblies feature a scorer body with an insert and clamp ring (for the traditional style) or a scorer body that accepts a fully demountable three-piece scoring ring (for G3 style scorers) and yoke wear plates and incorporated if possible. The scorer base heads are manufactured from Dura-Bar Continuously Cast Iron and are manufactured with extremely tight bore tolerances.

Creasing Tips

Sauer System recommends creasing against 70 durometer or 80 durometer polyurethane for all creasing applications.

Ensure the crease lines are being made at the center of the slots. When running 3/8” slots, the crease line should be centered 3/16” from either side of both the lead and trial slot. If the crease line is offset, the slotter heads and creasing heads should be realigned.

When troubleshooting folding and creasing issues, first ensure sheets are being fed correctly through the press. No creasing profile will make up for skewed sheets. To check for skew, collect one or more creased sheets after they have left the slot/score section but before they enter the folding section. Fold them in half along the center crease line and check to ensure the operator side and drive side edges match up. Not matching up correctly is evidence of a skewing issue.
